After graduating from McCook High School, I attended McCook Jr. College and then graduated from Kearney State College. 1962 grduate Ruth Ann Holthaus and I were college roommates and also lived together during our first teaching jobs in Alliance, Nebraska where I taught for 2 years. I then taught in Bismarck, ND until 2002. During my teaching years, I taught some English, Physical Education and alot of US History, all at the middle school level. I also spent several years coaching girls track and gymnastics. Since retiring I have had alot of time to spend jet skiing at my Lake Sallie cabin near Detriot Lakes, Minnesota, traveling, attending Minnesota Twins baseball games,skiing and in general enjoying not working . The past several years fellow classmates Ruth Ann Holthaus (Don Ruby), Arlene Chester (Maurey Mannlein), Nancy Wulff and I have had mini reunions at my cabin, Chicago, Phoenix, Boston with a side trip to Maine, and Philadelphia. Professionally,I was always involved in the ND Education Association and National Education Association and served as a delegate to several regional and national NEA conventions. I remain active in retired teachers' organizations and attended the National Education Association Retired (NEA-R) national conference in Los Angeles as a ND delegate. This July I am looking forward to attending the international conference of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, in Spokane, Washington. And of course the 2010 summer hilight will be the 2010 Bison Reunion.

I transferred to McCook High School from Bismarck, ND, toward the end of my junior year and could not have found a more inviting class of which to be a part. I have great memories of the games, band, potluck, friends, jiffy burgers, and yes even some classes. When teaching, I often thought of the sign in Loy Teter's class room that said " If you don't tell your parents everything about me, I won't tell them everything about you." I have never, to this day, attended a graduation ceremony where "Pomp and Circumstance" has been sung. That made our graduation unique.
