Kathy Drain (Almquist) (1962)

Jon passed away on 7 July 2004. This is his obituary:

Jon Douglas Almquist passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 7, 2004. His journey in this life was filled with joy, fulfillment, hardships and laughter. He battled diabetes most of his life and heart problems the last few years. He was a true champion as he fought to keep active and happy.

Jon was born Feb. 4, 1942, in Holdrege, the fourth child of Ernest John and Pearl Elizabeth (Glandon) Almquist. Jon attended elementary, junior high, high school and community college in McCook and he received his degree in accounting from Denver University.

On June 2, 1962, he married Kathleen Drain and they were the parents of four children.

All those that were blessed to meet and know him will miss his love and laughter. The sparkle in his eye will live on in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Kathy; his children, Barbara and husband, Ingo Labion of Wurzburg, Germany, Jon and wife, Sherry Almquist of Orem, Utah, Denise and husband, Thomas Halter of Phoenix, Ariz., Brenda and husband, Alfredo Travassos of American Fork, Utah; and his brother, Jim and wife, Marie Almquist of Denver, Colo. He temporarily leaves behind his 14 grandchildren, Kirsten and Amanda Labion, Devan, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Brayden and Kirstyn Almquist, TJ, Jon, James, Jesse and Meaghan Halter and Isabella and Gabriel Travassos.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Karen Almquist and Marilyn McCarty.

Funeral services were Monday, July 12, 2004, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Graveside services followed at Cochise Memorial Gardens in Sierra Vista.

The family respectfully request that memorial donations in Jon's name be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 37579, Phoenix, AZ 85069.

Corlyn Billesbach (Gettman) (1960)

So sorry to hear of Jon's sudden death. I knew Jon while attending East Ward School and had a big crush on him.
As it seems to happen so often, after entering junior high we drifted into a different of friends.
When my baby brother was born, I was 13 and requested that he be named Jon Alan.
Kathy you may not remember me as I think you were in my sisters class. I too lost my husband very suddenly on June 10th 2005.
Our class has suffered the loss of too many dear friends.
My best to you and your family.

Patty Gray (Myers) (1963)

I knew Jon in high school and actually dated him for a brief time. Then later after Jon was married and living in Denver, I was at my brother's apartment, and Jon was in an apartment near theirs.

Jon was a very friendly and good-looking teenager. He indeed had beautiful blue eyes. My sympathy and prayers go out to his family.

Patty
