I went to Northwestern college and studied Christian education and Psychology and played tennis. I got married to Corey Harthoorn in 1994, after his first year of medical school. Kaitlin was born 16 months later and I have been a stay-at-home mom ever since. We have four kids now. We lived in Iowa city Iowa for medical school, Mason City, IA for 3 years of residency, and four years in Norfolk, NE in private family practice.
We moved to Malawi (Southeastern Africa) in 2004 where my husband is a missionary doctor at an HIV/AIDS clinic. Our kids go to an international school.
We lived in Malawi for four years, did a one-year Home Assignment in Norfolk, Nebraska. Our youngest was in kindergarten, so I did a 400 hour internship at a counseling agency as well as some other training.
We returned to Malawi mid-july and are happy to be back home. I am busy being a Mom, counseling, and coaching a swim team. I enjoyed running into some McCook friends at a swimming meet in Hastings while we were in America last year!
I really wish I could be there for our 20 year, but won't be able to fly to America for it!
