WEDDING -- The marriage of Miss Betty Lou Watts, daughter of Mrs. Clara Watts of Zumbrota, Minnesota, and Lt. Thurber L. Hoyt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hoyt of the Culbertson community, took place in the Methodist church in Madison, Wisconsin on the forenoon of Tuesday, November 20. Rev. J. Pierce Newell officiated at the single ring ceremony.

The couple was attended by Miss Audrey Hoyt, sister of the groom, and LaFayette Watts, brother of the bride.

The bride wore a grey pastel suit with matching accessories and her corsage was an orchid. Her bridesmaid was attired in a lime suit with black accessories and gardenias and roses composed her corsage.

Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner served at the Park hotel in Madison was attended by immediate relatives of the wedding party, which included Mrs. Clara Watts and son, LaFayette, of Zumbrota, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hoyt and daughter, Audrey of Culbertson, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hoyt of McCook.

The bride is a graduate of the Zumbrota high school and also of the Northwest Medical Technician school in Minneapolis. Before her marriage she was employed in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The groom, now an officer in the army air force, is a graduate of McCook high school. He also attended McCook Junior College for one semester before entering the service. He is now stationed at Madison, Wisconsin where the couple will make their home after a short wedding trip.

ATWATER, California -- Lt. Col. Thurber L. Hoyt, 83, died February 29, 2008, at his home in Merced County, California.

He was born January 2, 1925, in Culbertson to Homer and Nettie Hoyt.

In 1945, he married his wife, Betty. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 until 1971, as an Air Force pilot and instructor pilot. He flew in World War II and Vietnam, achieving the rank Lieutenant Colonel before his retirement from active service. After retirement he farmed almonds with his family until the present.

He was active in his church and hosted Bible studies in his home. He was a member in the Businessmen's Fellowship group.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty Hoyt; two brothers, Marvin and Edwin Hoyt; and stepson, Roger Giesbrecht.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Hanna; his children Scott Hoyt and wife, Donna; Kathy Kangiser and husband, Glenn; Deborah Mininger and husband, Nathan and Doug Hoyt; step-children, Janet Torgeson, Sharon Drapeau, Patricia McCulloch; sister, Audrey Oliver; 27 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Services were March 6, 2008, at Atwater Baptist Church. Burial followed at the Winton District Cemetary.

Memorials may be given to Hinds Hospice or Atwater Baptist Church.
