Gwenn Ream (Stevens) - Class Of 1944

Phyllis Gwenn Stevens, age 92, of McCook, passed away on Sept. 11, 2019, at Community Hospital, McCook. Gwenn was born March 14, 1927, in Herndon, Kan., to parents, John Lewis and Dorothea M. (Sawtell) Ream. She was one of three children born to this union. The family later relocated to the McCook community, where Gwenn attended school, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1945. She then went on to attend Colorado’s Women’s College for one year. On Dec. 15, 1946, Gwenn married William Stevens in McCook. The couple made their home in McCook and were blessed with four children. Over the years, Gwenn worked as a bank teller and was a member of the Red Hat Society, McCook Cordials and PEO Chapter X. She enjoyed crafts, wood working with Bill in the shop and travelling throughout the United States. Her family shares fond memories of a few special trips to Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean. Gwenn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Stevens in 1997; daughter, Janice Teague and her brother, John Ream, Jr. Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Ashley Stevens of Freeland, Wash., Bill Stevens of The Villages, Fla., and Mike (Lori) Stevens of McCook; son-in-law, Sam Teague of Castle Rock, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Roth. Private family inurnment will be in the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Columbarium. I
