Alma F. Willis (Galloway) - Class Of 1930

July 8, 1913 - Nov. 3, 2008 SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Alma Galloway, 95, died peacefully at her home on Nov. 3, 2008, in San Ramon, Calif. Alma was born to Dr. J. M. Willis and Ethelyn Willis on July 8, 1913, in Marsland, Neb. She grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1930. She majored in fine arts at Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn., earning an Associate of Arts degree. In 1934, she married Joe Stephens in McCook and they had three daughters. Alma was a member of Chapter X PEO and D.A.R. She and her husband separated in 1950. She followed a career in public relations, advertising, radio and real estate in McCook, while raising her daughters. For a number of years she was area representative in Nebraska for Welcome Wagon. She was advertising manager for radio station KBRL in McCook, where she hosted a daily radio program for 15 years. Alma was appointed by Governor Frank Morrison to the State Liquor Control Commission, one of only three women holding such positions in the U.S. at the time. She also held appointive positions on the Nebraska State Real Estate Commission and the State Library Commission. Following the death of Joe Stephens in 1967, she married Ray Osborn of Lincoln 1969. In the mid seventies they moved to Arizona. After Ray's death, Alma continued living in Arizona for 15 years, marrying Charles Galloway until his death. She moved to California in 1997. Alma's interests included spending time with family, traveling, art, aerobics, gardening and crafts. She is survived by her three daughters, Dixie Clark, Sally Byrnes and Mary Jo Weigand, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of California. Alma was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook. A memorial service will be in Northern California, followed by inurnment at All Saints-of-the-Desert in Sun City, Ariz.
