Cloide J. Hensley, 85, of Arkansas City died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 15, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. The Reverend Lance Carrithers will officiate. Cremation has been effected.

Cloide was born March 5, 1918 to Cloide & Laura May (Hodges) Hensley in Harrisonville, MO. He was reared in Missouri and Madison, KS. In 1935 he graduated from the Madison High School and continued he education at Emporia State University graduating in 1940. Later he did post graduate work at the University of Nebraska and Colorado State University. Cloide was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army Air Corp in the Alaskan Theater.
Cloide married Hazel Archer on February 18, 1943 in Norton, KS. They made their first home in Canada where he was stationed with the Army Air Corp. After the war he taught industrial arts at Herndon, KS and McCook, NE. In 1952 they moved to Arkansas City where he owned and operated the AC Sales Barn and later worked for W. K. Lord Construction. From 1974 to 1992 he was a partner in the Duncan Hensley Construction Co.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Chancel Choir. Cloide was a member of the VFW, Lifetime member of the American Legion, the Evening Lions Club of which he received the International Honor Award from the Melvin Jones Fellowship and had served on the Arkansas City Building Trades Board.

Cloide is survived by his wife, Hazel of the home; two daughters, Sheila Haynes and her husband, Tom of Arkansas City, Melody Graham and her husband, Richard of Duncan, OK; son, Richard Hensley and his wife, Vickie of Arkansas City and five grandchildren, Bryan and Judy Haynes, Brynn and Justin Musson, Trevor Graham and Elisa and Stan McCutcheon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
