Jack Viersen - Class Of 1930

VISALIA- Jack Sidney Viersen, a former Petaluma resident, died at his home here of respiratory failure. He was 77. He was born and reared in McCook, Neb. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked for the federal government as a construction inspector for irrigation canals in the San Joaquin Valley, including the Friant, Kern and Mendota Delta canals.
He and his wife, Judith lived in Exeter and Lindsay for 10 years during construction of the canals. They later lived in Hanford while he worked as an engineer during the construction of Lemoore Naval Air Station. They lived in Petaluma for 23 years before moving in Visalia in 1988.
He was a member of Hills Ferry Lodge No. 236, Free and Accepted Masons, in Newman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Richard Bandy of Fremont; two daughters, Olgia Davis of Visalia an Margaret Motta of Clear Lake; and two brothers, Robert Viersen of San Mateo a Donald Viersen of Ahoskie, N. C.
