Abraham Brenning

The Rev. Abraham Brenning, 85, of Loveland, died July 9 at North Shore Health Care Facility in Loveland.

He was born April 5, 1910, in McCook, Neb., to Henry and Christina Yost Brenning.

He married Leona Schimke in 1938 in North Dakota. She preceded him in death in 1976.

Rev. Brenning graduated from Yankton College in Yankton, S.D. He did postgraduate work in Chicago.

He was the minister at Loveland’s First Congregational Church from 1950 to 1962. He was in the ministry for 52 years and served in pastorates in Hardin, Mont.; Scottsbluff, Neb.; Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Lincoln, Neb. He retired in 1976 and returned to Loveland.

He enjoyed fishing, traveling and reading.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert Brenning and wife Susan, Duluth, Minn., John Brenning, missing in action in Vietnam; two brothers, John and Joe Brenning, both of McCook, Neb.; three sisters, Alice Brenning and Katherine Lankford, both of Porterville, Calif., and Esther Reske, Racine, Wis.; and three grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Laura Brenning, all of Duluth.

He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Allnutt Funeral Service’s Allnutt Chapel, and Friday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Arthur Orth officiating.

Burial will be in the Loveland Burial Park.

Contributions may be sent to the First Congregational Church New Hymnal Fund in care of Allnutt Hunter Chapel.
