Robert G. Propes

McCOOK, Neb. — Robert G. Propes Jr., age 87, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Community Hospital in McCook after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Logan Station, N.C., to Horace G. and Hattie (Self) Propes. He was one of eight children.
Bob enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob attended college and graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in mathematics and science. After graduation, Bob pursued a 14-year career as a math and science teacher in the states of Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. In 1973, Bob left teaching and he and his wife, Deanna, opened their own business selling Suzuki motorcycles and golf cars. The business continued to grow and change to solely golf carts. Bob enjoyed working with people and would continue to do so for the next 43 years, until his retirement in May of 2016.
On Jan. 21, 1956, Bob married Lou Ann Lewis. To this union three children were born: Tammie Rae, Terri Lynn and Kurt Lee.
On June 5, 1971, Bob married Deanna Brown. To this union two children were born: Robert Scott and Anita Ann.
Family was very important to Bob. He enjoyed teaching his children to golf and hunt ducks and geese over the years. Later in life, he took much joy in spending time with his grandchildren or "little buddies" as he lovingly referred to them. He also enjoyed reading, shooting trap and working in his yard and garden which were his pride and joy every summer.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Hattie Propes; Lou Ann Propes, wife; mothers- and fathers-in-law, Dean and Margaret Brown and Ray and Pauline Lewis; son, Kurt Propes; and siblings, Lemaul (twin brother), Zettie, Geneva, Edna, Carl, Dare, Douglas and their spouses.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deanna of McCook; daughter, Anita and husband, John Foley of McCook; son, Scott and wife, Kristina of Culbertson; daughter, Terri Propes of Kearney; and daughter, Tammie and husband, Herman Coleson of Hooks, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Propes of McCook; seven grandchildren, Augie, Dylan, Brighton, AJ, Brian, Jenell and Lisa and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a large extended family and a host of friends.
The family requests that memorials be given on Bob's behalf to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
Funeral services are Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 2 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel with Mike Roth officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
