Richard Hill - Class Of 1948

Richard H. "Dick" Hill 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 20,2014, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday,
August 25, at 10a.m. at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan
Village in Hastings with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating.

Dick was born July 30,1930, in Lincoln, NE, to Howard H
and Mildred B.(Campbell) Hill.

He graduated from McCook High School in 1948 and served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1949-1956.

In his younger years, Dick enjoyed competing in rodeo competitions around the state of Nebraska.

On March 10, 1956, he married Fannie Gartner. He was employed as an over the road truck driver from 1960-65 out of Brush, Colorado, and from 1965-1983 for Midwest Distributing Company in Juniata before retiring from Metz Baking Company in 1993.

Dick was an accomplished musician, vocalist and country music historian. He hosted the "Country Afternoon Show" on KHAS radio, and was an active member of the Nebraska Country Music Association.

Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Fannie L. Hill; sons, Rick Hill and wife Debi, David Hill, Steven Hill and significant other Deborah Nolan, all of Hastings; daughters,
Cindy Taylor and husband Randy of Hastings, Melissa Hartman and husband Mark of Kearney; brother, Robert Hill and wife Joann of North Platte; grandchildren, Nicholas Hill, Mackinzi Hill, Misty Beel, Madison Hill, Cody Chaney, Amanda Chaney, Camile Hartman; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

 

Dick Hill was a hillbilly singer from the Nebraska area. His career started with a program that aired at 6:30am over KBRL out of McCook, Nebraska in 1946. When he was done playing his guitar and spinning records on his show, he would pack up and attend McCook High School. While now retired, his career spanned nearly 50 years and he is one of the original members of the Nebraska Country Music Foundation's Country Music Hall of Fame
