Don Hodson - Class Of 1945

June 4, 1928 - March 7, 2008 Donald L. "Don" Hodson, died Friday, March 7, 2008, in Kearney. He was 79 years old. Don was born on June 4, 1928, in Montrose, Colo., to Joe and Clara M. (Ludwig) Hodson. He attended McCook Public Schools with the class of 1945. Don married Maxine Leitner Dec. 16, 1945, and to this marriage three children were born. He married Karen Jones Kircher on Jan. 12, 1990, at Weslaco, Texas and four more children joined his family. Don farmed south of McCook until he retired in 1989. In retirement he worked for John Deere and also started "Sheer Delight" a candy vending business. Don and Karen lived in Colby, Kan., for five years (2001-2006) while Karen managed the Fairview Estates Retirement Home and Don was her right-hand-man helping with maintenance. Don especially enjoyed having coffee and working with the people at the home during that time. He always enjoyed his family, camping, watching birds and working in his yard. Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Clara Hodson; one son, Loy Hodson; an infant brother, Raymond Hodson; two sisters, Helen Hodson and Phyllis Zwickle; and brother-in-law, Herman Zwickle. Survivors include his wife, Karen Hodson of McCook; children, Connie and husband, Don Grove of Edison and Scott Hodson and wife, Carol of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Judy Hodson of Grand Island; step-children, Mark Kircher, Mike Kircher and wife, Val and John Kircher, all of McCook and Jeff Kircher of Holdrege; seven grandchildren, Jamie and wife, Teresa Hodson, Lori and husband, Chris Hansen, Craig Grove, Ken Grove and wife, Angel, Vanessa and husband, Jason Berry, Maleah and husband, Corey Johnson, and Derek Hodson; five step-grandchildren, Crystal, Shaun, Diedre, Dustin and Aaron; and 11 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
