Francis Weiland - Class Of 1945

Francie 'Frannie' E. Weiland Tuesday, August 2, 2005 Sept. 5, 1925-Aug. 1, 2005 Francis "Frannie" E. Weiland, 79, died Monday (August 1, 2005) at the Premier Estates Senior Living Center in North Platte. Francis was born in McCook, Sept. 5, 1925, to Francis N. and Marion E. (Kling) Weiland. He was a member of the McCook High School class of 1945. He lived all his life in McCook until moving to North Platte in 1999. He was self-employed and owned his window cleaning service. For many years following World War II, Frannie was probably McCook's most visible citizen, as he worked in downtown McCook. He was a familiar sight as he pulled his red wagon, filled with window washing equipment, along Norris Avenue. He never met a stranger and spoke to everyone he met. He was an unofficial greeter to out-of-town shoppers and certainly made everyone feel welcome. Another of his jobs was putting up the flags on the light poles on Norris Avenue for holidays. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Kiwanis Club. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his brother, Retired Col. Joe K. Weiland and wife, Dee of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Marion of North Platte; nephews Tim and Ted Weiland, Mike and wife, Mary Keith, Allen and wife, Ann Keith, Larry Keith, Douglas and wife, Sharon Keith; a niece Kathy Shimmin; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to the McCook Knights of Columbus or the McCook Kiwanis Club. Graveside services will be Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., at Calvary Cemetery with Father Gary Brethour officiating. A memorial Mass is scheduled for Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating.
