MC COOK — Melvyn R. Chrisman, 88, of McCook, father of Michael (Kerry) Chrisman of North Platte, died Nov. 2, 2003, at McCook Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 7, 1915, in McCook to James R. and Mary Kehl Chrisman. He grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1933.
On June 26, 1937, he married Constance Malcolm in McCook. He was employed by the Fox Theater before entering the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Following his discharge from the military he continued his 20-year career with the theater and also was employed for 30 years by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Chrisman was a 50-year member of the Memorial United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a 25-year and charter member of the Nebraska Genealogical Society and a 25-year member of the McCook Elks Lodge 1434 in McCook and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors also include his wife, Connie of McCook; a daughter, Jilene (Marvin) Cohn of Denver; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with military honors.
