Constance "Connie" Ethelyn Malcolm Chrisman, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2008, at her daughter's home in Denver, Colo. Constance was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Johnson County at Cook, Neb., the daughter of the late Theron W. and Virgia E. (Ethridge) Malcolm. When a little child her parents moved to Naponee, Neb., where her younger years were spent. The family moved to McCook in the summer of 1926. Connie graduated from McCook High School in 1932, and was a member of the first class to attend McCook Junior College. During this time, she worked for a photography studio, a doctor and dentist's office and at the Red Willow County Court House. In her later years she worked for the Remington Insurance Agency. On June 26, 1937, Connie married Melvyn Ray Chrisman and they shared 66 years of love together. To this union was born a daughter and a son. Both Connie and Melvyn lived and worked in the McCook Community and were well known throughout the town. Constance was a 75-year member of Memorial United Methodist Church; and more than 50 years member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was instrumental in organizing the Southwest Genealogical Society and taught some genealogical classes for the college. She loved searching her family heritage and helping others find their roots. She was a member of the 37th Star Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Another of her enjoyments was the water aerobics classes at the YMCA. This was one of her loves and passion, enjoying her time in the water and encouraging others to join for health reasons and fun. Other groups she belonged to were the Victory pinochle club, and the McCook Historical Museum. She loved taking the trips that were sponsored by the bank and was always ready for the adventure and going places. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 wonderful years on Nov. 2, 2003, and her older brother, Edward Francis Malcolm; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Malcolm, Justine Malcolm and Lois Gordon Morris; brothers-in-law, Harlend Gordon , Gilbert Clesson and Fran W. Morris. Connie is survived by her daughter, Jilene and son-in-law, Marvin Cohn of Denver, Colo.; her son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Kerry Chrisman of North Platte, Neb.; five grandchildren, Julie Harris and Jeffrey Hanthorn of Phoenix, Ariz., Alan Chrisman and wife, Sandy of North Platte, Neb., Aron Chrisman of Chadron, Neb., and Alesa Jones and husband, Casey of Salina, Kan.; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica Lea and Michael John Harris, Colton Michael, Danika Marie and Nathan Chrisman. Besides her children there are left to mourn her departure, a sister, Kathryn Malcolm Clesson of McCook; two brothers, John Austin Malcolm of Austin, Texas and Rovert Ivan and wife, Bernie Malcolm of McCook; sister-in-law, Mid Malcolm of Forest Hills, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2008, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., on Wednesday and Thursday. Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
