Irene Traphagan (Vap) - Class Of 1932

Irene J. Vap, 87, died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at Community Hospital of McCook. She was born March 25, 1915, to John L. and Jane Marie (Corcoran) Traphagan in Frontier County. She attended St. Patrick's School in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1932. On July 26, 1938, she married Frederick P. Vap at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Frontier County. They spent their married lives in McCook where they owned and operated Vap's Seed and Hardware. She retired in 1999. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook and the Padraic Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; one brother, John Traphagan; and three sisters, Loretta Ruppert, Genevieve Anderjaski and Leona McCraken. Survivors include four sons, Douglas Vap and wife, Mary and Jerry Vap and wife, Sherry all of McCook; Dr. J. Gordon Vap and wife, Jeanne of Chevy Chase, Md. and John Vap and wife, Linda of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters, Eleanor Traphagan and Bernadine and husband, Ike Malcolm of McCook; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in McCook. The rosary will be said Sunday, 7 p.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook. Visitation is today until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home
