Helen Turner (Brooks) - Class Of 1931

Helen Claire Brooks Friday, November 2, 2007 April 30, 1913 - Oct. 30, 2007 FRANKLIN -- Helen Claire Brooks, 94, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2007) at Golden Living Center in Franklin. She was born April 30, 1913, at McCook to Samuel Dallas and Nellie Edna (Spencer) Turner. She attended school in McCook, where she graduated from high school in 1931. Following graduation she attended on year of business college. She was employed as a clerk secretary for the ATT Telephone Company in Denver, Colo., and San Bruno, Calif. On Feb. 2, 1965, she was united in marriage to Denver Willard Brooks at Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in San Bruno until retiring in 1974, when they moved to Republican City. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1988. She then moved to Alma in 1990 and to the Golden Living Center in the Assisted Living in Franklin in 2003. She was a member of the IMP and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 304 at Republican City. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1956 and father in 1967; husband, Denver Brooks; and brother-in-law, Charles Harrison in 1994. Survivors include her sister, Gloria Harrison of Franklin; one nephew; one great niece; and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma, with the Rev. Melanie Adams officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. There is no visitation, her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of Nebraska. Banta-Torrey Funeral Home of Alma is in charge of arrangements.
