Veta Mae Poore (Ray) - Class Of 1931

Boulder, Colo. -- Veta Mae Ray, 91, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Frazier Meadows Manor in Boulder, Colo.
She was born to Otto and Emma Poore in Minden, NE on June 15 of 1912. Her family farmed her grandparent's property in Minden until 1922, when they moved to Traer, KS. Five years later the family moved to the Summerville farm just west of McCook. Veta Mae completed high school at McCook High School and entered McCook Junior College in 1930.

She married Arthur J. Ray on July 30, 1934 in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo. After a few years, they settled at their home on Ravenswood Road, where they lived until 2001. Veta Mae was active in the Ravenswood Extension Club; St. Patrick's Padraic Club and Rosary Society, and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and playing pinochle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Arthur, and Donal R., their son.

She is survived by her sons; Eric E. Ray and wife, Connie, of Great Falls, Mont., Arthur J. Ray of Boulder, Colo., Gerald H. Ray of Cañon City, Colo., and James B. Ray of Erie, Penn., nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rosary will be Sunday, July 13, 2003, 7 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 14, 2003, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday until 5 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. until noon, and Sunday 5 p.m. until time of Rosary.

Memorials may be addressed to the Community Hospital Auxiliary.
