HITCHCOCK COUNTY -- Eddie Gene Oberg, 64, died Wednesday (March 31, 2004) while working north of Culbertson.

He was born Dec. 31, 1939, to Gustave and Maudie (Tirrill) Oberg in Red Willow County. He grew up in McCook and attended McCook High School. He graduate from Edison High School in Edison in 1958.

On June 24, 1959, he married Charlotte Groves at the Garden Prairie Church north of McCook. The couple resided in McCook until moving to Culbertson in January of 1974, where he spent the remainder of his life. For the past 30 years he has been employed with Frenchman Valley H&RW Irrigation District. He was an organizer of the EMT program in Culbertson.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on the Culbertson Rural Fire Department since 1976. He was on the executive board of the Frenchman Valley Mutual Aid Fire District and he was a promoter of the Twin Rivers Golf Course in Culbertson.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1995; one sisters, Charlene Doherty on June 9, 2000; and infant brother, William Oberg in 1937.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Oberg of Culbertson; three sons, Alan Oberg and wife, Kindra, Kevin Oberg and wife, Kim and Steve Oberg and wife, Patty , all of Culbertson; his mother Maudie Oberg of McCook; father-in-law, Charles Groves of McCook; and nine grandchildren.

Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Dan Spearow officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation is in McCook at Herrmann Funeral Home until Sunday.
