Roger John Ball, died Friday (Feb.16, 2007) at his home in McCook at the age of 70.

He was born Nov. 13, 1936, at Brooks, Alberta Canada, the son of the late Archie and Neva (Fassler) Ball. In 1943, the Ball family moved back to McCook where he grew up and graduated from McCook High School in 1955.

On Dec. 7, 1955, Roger entered the U. S. Army serving until Oct. 31, 1957. He continued his service in the Army Reserve.
On Jan. 25, 1959, Roger married Carol C. Guthrie at McCook and they spent their married life in McCook where he was a conservation contractor and owner of Ball Construction.

In 1963, he built their home on an acreage that was homesteaded by his grandfather, Jacob C. Ball in 1891, and spent the remaining years of his life there. He retired in 2000.

He was a member of the Land Improvement Contractors of America, a former member of the McCook Elks Lodge, the Eagles Club and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas John Ball on Feb. 9, 1991; his parents; three brothers, James Ball, Robert Ball and Wayne Ball; and two sisters, Betty Newlun and Margy Simmons.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol of McCook, two sons, William "Fred" Ball and wife, Denise of McCook and Richard Ball and wife, Penny of Stapleton; one daughter, Barbara Hoyt and husband, Bill of McCook; six grandchildren, David Hoyt, Daniel Hoyt, Elsa Ball, Raegan Ball, Jacob Ball and Connor Ball; four step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Leibbrandt of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Shirley Ball of Bellevue; brother-in-law, George Simmons of Altus, Okla.; and relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook, with Rev. Jon Albrecht officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
