Elsie Dutcher (Fetters) - Class Of 1929

 Elsie M. Fetters, 95, died Friday (Feb. 18, 2005) at Elwood Care Center in Elwood. She was born March 30, 1909, to Austin and Minnie (Tucker) Dutcher in Red Willow County. She attended rural school and graduated from McCook High School in 1929 and from McCook Junior College in 1931. She taught rural school for three years. On June 10, 1934, she married Theodore "Ted" Fetters. The couple farmed south of Holbrook before buying a farmstead south of Elwood. She began teaching again in 1953 at Edison for six years. She later taught in Elwood, Roseland and Bertrand until retiring in 1971. Through the years she continued her education in Kearney State College, receiving a degree in education in 1968. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Elwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; an infant daughter, Marie; three sons, Bruce, Daniel and Mark; grandson, Patrick; daughter-in-law, Mary Fetters; three sisters, Edna, Millie and Thelma; and one brother, Calvin. Survivors include one daughter, Marcia and husband, Stan Kaps of Johnson Lake; one son, Rodger and wife, Nanette Fetters of McAllen, Texas; daughter-in-law, Patty Fetters of Ogallala; three sisters, Hazel Malleck and Ruth Sughroue, both of Indianola and Flora Dutcher of McCook; one brother, Lee Dutcher of Rolla, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at First Christian Church in Elwood with the Rev. Ginny Adams officiating. Interment will be in Edison Cemetery. Visitation is today, 3-8 p.m., at the church. A memorial has been established in her name. Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge of the arrangements.
