LINCOLN -- Mildred Ingrid Swan, 100, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at her home in Lincoln.
She was born to William G. and Ellen Fosberg (Olson) on July 22, 1903, in Minden. She grew up in Minden until the family moved to McCook in 1919. She graduated from McCook High School in 1922 and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in education. She moved to California where she received her master's degree. She then returned to Nebraska and taught school in Kearney and at Kearney College.
On Nov. 13, 1943, she married Timothy Swan at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook. The couple moved to Omaha where Timothy owned and operated his own oil company. She continued to operate the company after her husband's death in 1984. She retired at the age of 88 and moved to Lincoln in 1995.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church, the PEO and Alpha Delta Pi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Timothy; two brothers, Axel and Elmer Olson; one sister, Alvina Norman; and one nephew, Tom Remington.
Survivors include two sisters, Ada Remington and Phyllis Marsh, both of McCook; four nieces and three nephews. Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Samuel Williams officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
