John was born and raised in McCook and attended grade school, junior and senior high school, graduating in 1960. He was the President of the high school band and lettered in basketball and football. John played two years of varsity baseball at the University of Nebraska and served as editor of the Daily Nebraskan during his junior and senior years. He received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the U of N in 1964, and a master's in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. in 1965. During his college years he worked summers in the editorial department of the McCook Daily Gazette.
After receiving his master's degree John joined the public relations department of Trans World Airlines and for two years served as the airline's public relations representative in Rome, Italy. He joined the communications department of IBM corporation in 1969 and took early retirement in 1991. At retirement he was manager of Corporate Editorial Services at the company's Armonk, NY., headquarters.
John died on July 8, 1993 while visiting at his mother's home in Mesa, AZ.
According to McCook Daily Gazette arcives; John was married September 20, 1969 to Lois Danielson in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home in Shawnee Mission, Kansas where John worked for IBM public relations. Lois was employed by Northwest Orient Airlines as a cabin attendant. They had two children: Jennifer of Storrs,CT. and Jeffery of Palm Beach Garden , FL. John took early retirement in 1991.
