Amber M. Hernandez

McCOOK, Neb. — Amber M. Hernandez, age 37, of McCook, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021, at Community Hospital in McCook.

Amber was born June 25, 1984, in McCook to parents, William (Todd) and Marie Diane (Maris) Baker. She was one of three children who grew up in McCook, where she attended school, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 2003.

In 2009, Amber married Paul A. Hernandez in McCook. The couple made their home in McCook and were blessed with a son, Malakai. Amber was a devoted mother and a wonderful cook who loved to bake extravagant birthday cakes for her son. She was passionate about photography and also enjoyed crafting, refinishing furniture and camping with friends and family.

Amber was preceded in death by her father, Todd Baker; her grandparents; three uncles, David Scrabek, Scott Dolan and Dan Petty; aunt, Deb Petty; and three cousins, Brian Minnick, Jeff Minnick and Dawn Salyer.

Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Paul Hernandez and son, Malakai, of McCook; grandmother, Sandra Maris of McCook; mother, Marie Baker, of McCook; brother, Zachary (Rebecca) Baker and their children, Ziva and baby on the way, all of McCook; sister, Megan (John) Bracewell of Andalusia, Ala.; aunts and uncles, Don (Diane) Maris of Missouri, Shirley (Cliff) Reiner of Palisade, Neb., Karen (Carl) Reiman of McCook, Jane (Jim) Foster of Bartley, Neb., Mary Maris and friend, Lloyd, of Kansas, Roger (Jennifer) Maris of McCook, Michael (Tanya) Maris of Gering, Neb., Monica (Mick) Flammang of Cambridge, Neb., Chad Baker of Wasilla, Alaska, Cindy Dolan of Oberlin, Kan., Doug (Glenda) Baker of Anchorage, Alaska and Sherri (Mike) Lukas of McCook; father-in-law, Paul Hernandez, Sr. of Lawrence, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Ash) Ahmmed of Lawrence and Sabrina (Efron) Hernandez of Hayes Center, Neb.; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, at McCook Christian Church in McCook with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.
