McCOOK, Neb. - Dawn Annette (Hyde) Gill was called home to be with Jesus on Jan. 18, 2024. Dawn was born on Sep. 25, 1960 in Pueblo, Colo. to Don and Vaunda (Fortkamp) Hyde. Dawn was baptized in Pueblo, Colo. and confirmed at Peace Lutheran.
In 1978 Dawn graduated from McCook Public School. After graduating, Dawn started working hard in the office for Gibson. She lived in Garden City, Kan. before moving to Kearney to pursue her BA degree in education. Dawn began her teaching career as a student teacher for some lucky students in Omaha. After completing her student teaching, she moved to Wauneta, Neb. to continue blessing her first and second grade students. Dawn gave her all to her students, constantly going above and beyond to create memorable experiences for her students. Dawn ultimately retired from teaching in 2022 after over 30 years in the classroom.
When Dawn wasn’t in the classroom you could find her in the car traveling anywhere she could. She was always well-prepared with a bag packed containing anything she, or anyone else she was with, needed for the trip.
She married Whit Gill at St. Paul Lutheran church in 2015 and he preceded her in death.
Preceding her in death was husband Whit Gill, Father Don Hyde and grandparents Fred and Merle Fortkamp and Ethel Hinnerschietz.
Survivors are mother Vaunda Hyde, brothers Doug (Faith) Hyde, Greg (Tiffany) Hyde, nieces Austyn (Ryan) Maaske, Caitlyn and Madison Hyde (friend David Tyson), Paige (Adam) Bartlett, Chris (Janelle) Schaffert. Willa Maaske grandniece and grandnephews Jonah and Oscar Bartlett. Best friend, Kara (Keith) Delano
Memorial Service will be May 18, 10:30 a.m. CST, at Peace Lutheran Church McCook, Neb. with A Celebration of Life following at McCook Eagles, 805 E B St., McCook, Neb. In lieu of flowers, we request school supplies that we can donate to her school in her honor. She always made sure the kids had what they needed while she was teaching.
