KEARNEY, Neb. -- Mark W. Benjamin, age 56, of Kearney, died Tuesday morning, April 14, 2015, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon, April 17, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney with Pastor Eric Lesher officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials are planned to AseraCare Hospice or the Kearney Public Schools Special Education Fund. Mark was born Jan. 31, 1959, in Moscow, Idaho, to Lloyd W. and Geraldine (Lauer) Benjamin. The family moved to McCook, where Mark attended school and was a graduate of McCook High School in 1977. He was a graduate of the McCook Community College in 1978 and received a bachelor of science degree in business from the University of Nebraska-Kearney in 1983.

Following his graduation from UNK, Mark was co-founder of BD Construction and was the President and CEO until his death. On Nov. 9, 1990, he married Brenda L. Carpenter in Kearney.

Mark was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He also was currently serving as president of the Kearney Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Southeast Community College Building Construction Technology Advisory Council and was a trustee for the National Association of General Contractors Legislative Affairs Committee.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Brenda of Kearney; son, Will, at home; daughter, Kimberly White and her husband, Mahlon of Altoona, Iowa; sisters, Debra Wells and her husband, Bobby of Mesa, Arizona, Linda Hiatt and her husband, Don of Saginaw, Texas, Laura Eldred and her husband, Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Teresa Bertrand and her husband, Mark of Funk, Nebraska; parents, Lloyd and Elizabeth Benjamin of McCook and Geraldine Benjamin of Funk; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dan and Lois Carpenter of Kearney; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bridget and Brian Mosbarger of Kearney. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
