July 2, 1955-March 23, 2011

LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Michael Everett Powell, 55, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

He was born July 2, 1955, in Benkelman, Nebraska to Everett and Leora (Folkerts) Powell.

Michael and Sandra (Misner) Powell were united in marriage on June 19, 1982, in Lincoln. He worked for his brother, Dr. Richard Powell, as an Optician at Malbar Vision Center in Lincoln for 30 years.

Michael graduated from Grand Island High School and Omaha Optician College and attended Kearney State College.

Michael had a great love for music, sports and fishing trips to Canada with his family. He was a gentle and loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle and great uncle. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and many-many friends.

Michael is survived by his mother, Leora of Lincoln; former wife, Sandra Powell of Lincoln; daughter, Sara M. Powell of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Powell and spouse, Patty of Bettendorf, Iowa; Dr. Richard L. Powell and spouse, Vicki of Lincoln; sister, Nancy Powell of Lincoln; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Everett; sister, Vicki; niece, Kristie Flaherty; and most recent nephew, Burkett Richard Powell.

Memorial services were Saturday at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home 5200 R Street, Lincoln with Pastor Kerry O'Bryant officiating.
