Cal Siegfried

June 6, 1955 — January 16, 2026

McCook

Calvin Lamoine Siegfried, born June 6, 1955, at St. Catherine Hospital in McCook, Nebraska was the beloved son of Larry and Ethyl Siegfried. Cal graduated from McCook High School and Northeastern Jr. College in Sterling, Colorado.

Cal spent the majority of his life in McCook Nebraska, where he was born and raised. He grew up on a farm south of McCook and tried his hand at farming and raising pigs. He had a great story of why he didn’t stay in the pig business and moved into the cattle business where he worked for over 40 years. Cal continued to work with the cattle business and processing to include his current endeavor of meats and beef bacon at the Eustis plant under Copperstone Foods. Cal was an eternal optimist and a never-ending entrepreneur. There was no venture he was afraid to try. He was a leader, friend and mentor to many.

Cal was united into marriage to Julie Smith on February 21, 2015 in McCook.

Cal’s greatest achievement was his three sons and their families. He loved his family and grandchildren, all 13 of them and his five step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was an avid fan of their sporting events, 4-H showings and seeing them continue on with the Siegfried family showmanship and livestock judging, he was also the biggest cheerleader of their academic achievements.

This past year, Cal received the Community Builder Award, the last of many awards that he received through the years. This was a testament to his involvement in many of McCook’s most beloved events. “He was the voice on the radio for so many people as they grew up and will be remembered for his infamous ads. He was a part of so many of McCook’s favorite events—from Buffalo Commons to Heritage Days—always ready with a story, quick wit, and just the right words to bring a crowd together.” Cal was described as someone who “shows up, steps in, lifts up others, and makes us laugh while he’s doing it—that’s what makes a true community builder.”

Cal gave back to his community in many many ways, with supporting Hospice, fund raisers, emceeing events, calling the wiener dog races, driving the community college school bus to all sporting events and multitudes of other efforts to improve the community and lives of others.

Cal enjoyed his golf, coffee with the guys, Friday night “bowling” and nights at the Coppermill with friends.

Cal rejoiced in rejoining the Catholic church, having his marriage to Julie sanctified on their 10th anniversary with the sacrament of marriage signifying their lifelong commitment to each other and to God.

Cal Siegfried, a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, local businessman and friend, was surrounded by family when he passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 70 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Siegfried and mother, Ethyl Siegfried.
