In Memory

Jess McCorkle - Class Of 1971

Jess L. McCorkle, 69, of Dewey, joined his Lord and Savior in heaven on Monday, October 10, 2022. Jess was born December 17, 1952, in Topeka, Kansas, to Paul and Edith Ann (Myers) McCorkle. He attended college in McCook, Nebraska, and earned his associate degree in business. He also graduated from the police academy in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1974 in Kearney, Nebraska, Jess met the love of his life Cherie Livingston on a blind date, which was initiated through their lifelong friends, Sherry and Don Purvis. The couple fell head over heels for each other and married on May 31, 1975, in Hayes Center, Nebraska. The couple moved to Bartlesville in 1975 and Cherie attended what was then called Bartlesville Wesleyan College (now Oklahoma Wesleyan University). Jess started his longtime employment in 1976 with Phillips Service Stations, which were then owned by Phillips Petroleum, and continued there until 2010. It was in 2011 that ASAP purchased the Phillips Stations, and Jess continued working for ASAP until his retirement in the end of August 2022. He enjoyed working as a manager at the service stations. Jess loved camping and his family have many fond memories of their camping adventures. Jess also enjoyed fishing, archery, and canoeing. His loved ones cherish the many wood crafts he gave them as gifts through the years. Jess and Cherie joined the Dewey Church of the Nazarene in 1975 and then the Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene in 1996. Jess lived with a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a faithful churchgoer. He participated in various ministries at the church and was always ready to lend a hand. Jess is survived by his beloved wife, Cherie McCorkle; children, Becky McCorkle, and Philip McCorkle and his wife Melissa; his mother, Edith McCorkle; one sister, DeeAnn Premer and her husband Trevor; three brothers, Terry McCorkle and his wife Jill, Steve McCorkle and his wife Julie, and Scott McCorkle; four grandchildren, Clayton, Alyssa, Myles and Lilyan. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul McCorkle; a daughter, Elizabeth McCorkle; and a son, Nathan L. McCorkle. Jess’ family will receive friends on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 6-8 p.m., at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at the Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend David Mosher officiating.
