Dave Matson - Class Of 1970

David A. Matson

 

David Allen Matson, age 68, of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Community Hospital in McCook. 

David was born June 16, 1951 in McCook to parents Barton Rea and Grace (Fuqua) Matson.  He was the youngest of nine children who grew up in McCook, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1970.

Following high school, David pursued a career in construction and continued to work for many years in the dry walling industry. David also proudly served his country in the United States Army during three separate tours that spanned the Vietnam War. Rising to the rank of Staff Sargeant during his career with military.  He was Honorably Discharged in 1979. 

On June 25, 2002, David married Susan Marie (Brown) Matson in McCook.  He was a member of the local VFW, the American Legion, the Eagles Club and an avid pool player.  David also enjoyed bowling on a weekly league, doing wood working projects for his family, watching WWE wrestling and watching old war movies or western movies that featured John Wayne with his grandson Tanner.  He loved his cats and dogs, especially his dog Caesar. 

David was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Matson; his two sisters, Beulah Gill and Dorothy Scott; and his step son, Jason Brown.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Susan Matson of McCook; two sons, Willie  Matson of Long Island, KS and Barton (Kayla) Matson of Culbertson, NE; three daughters, Donniel (Greg) Eng of Killeen, TX, Darlene (Mark) Brooks of Bartley, NE and Melissa (Thomas) Cravey of Imperial, NE; daughter in law by heart, Kayla Budd of Oakley, KS; brother, Dennis (Nancy) Matson of Bartley, NE; five sisters, Carolyn Wallace of Omaha, NE, Dixie Anthony of Goldsboro, NC, Deloris Wood of Denver, CO, Devona Sattler of Herndon, KS and Sue Magee of Denver, CO; seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
