Rex Backer - Class Of 1969

Rex Backer, of Hershey, died at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte on February 26, 2022, at the age of 70. Rex was born to Bob and Elva Backer on April 17, 1951, at McCook where he grew up. After graduating from high school, Rex attended McCook Junior College then University of Nebraska at Lincoln, earning his B.S. Degree in Education. Rex taught in Fremont for five years then moved to Hershey where he taught 3rd grade until retiring. He loved being a teacher and enjoyed reading and watching movies. Rex especially enjoyed the company of his dogs over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Elva. Survivors include his siblings, David (Lori) Backer, of Boise, ID, and Jody (Richie) Crocker and Fred (Jane) Backer, of McCook; his friend, Pastor Kevin Hendricks and his family, of Hershey; as well as 8 nieces and nephews, almost 10 great-nieces and nephews, and other family. In keeping with Rex's wishes, cremation was chosen and private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to Hershey Public Schools. Dan Ault (1969)

Sorry to hear about Rex Backer. I remember him as always having two or three books that he was reading at the same time , not just school assignments. His mother was my swim team instructor at the YMCA. He was a good guy.
