Jim Trail - Class Of 1969

James Lynn Trail, age 70, of McCook, NE, passed away peacefully at his home in McCook on June 2, 2021. 

Jim was born January 18, 1951, in McCook to his parents, Rollin and Elynnor (Hoyt) Trail.  He was the youngest of five children.  He attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 1969.  He also attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.  He was a member of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for many years.

Jim worked on his family farm for most of his life.  He was a fisherman and an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting deer, doves, ducks and coyotes.  He was also a pilot who flew spray planes as well as Super Cubs.  Jim enjoyed restoring aircraft and was a member of the Vintage Aircraft Association.  He held both a commercial and mechanic pilot’s license for many years.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, learning about his family history, racing stock cars, and watching classic westerns. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.

He married Virginia Trail on September 6, 1972 in Salt Lake City, UT, and they had four children:  Elynnor (Trail) and husband Alefgul Shukorzai of Beijing, China, Elisabeth (Trail) and husband Christian George of Scottsdale, AZ, Suzanne Trail of San Ramon, CA, and Caleb and Joy Trail of McCook.

His older surviving siblings include Marylin Newcomb, Chuck Trail (and wife Dian) of McCook, Judi (and husband Dan) Johnson of Lacombe, LA, and Jack Trail (and wife Norma) of Paducah, TX.  He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
