Douglas “Doug” Wayne Gilliland Doug Gilliland husband to Kathy Weddle, passed away peacefully in Lincoln, NE surrounded by his loving family on December 14, 2025. Doug was born May 15, 1951, in Frontier County, Nebraska in a tiny farmhouse near Stockville to Mildred “Millie” Marie Johnson (1932- 2020) and Gerald “Gerry” Dean Gilliland (1930-2011). He was the oldest of four children: Jeanne Marie Gilliland (1953-1972); Duane Dean Gilliland (1956-1972), and Judy Gilliland (1961- ). He married Debra “Deb” Sue Miller in 1972 and had two children, Bryan Gilliland and Brenda Gilliland. In 1978, they moved from McCook to Lincoln, NE, so he could attend UNL and complete his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering. Doug later married Kathy Weddle and had one child together, Amanda (Weddle) Albrecht. He spent his free time hunting, racing (street and hobby stock), woodworking, and of course with his kids and grandchildren. He loved designing and building things from scratch since he was a teenager. Most recently he helped build a trebuchet and a slingshot to launch avocados in the National Avocado Launching Championship, which was held in North Platte, NE with his family. Preceded in death by his mother Millie, stepfather Clifford “Cliff” Becker, father Gerry, brother Duane, and sister Jeanne. Survived by his wife Kathy Weddle, children Bryan, Brenda Gilliland (Jim Burkhardt), and Amanda (Brian) Albrecht, grandchildren Cody Gilliland and Izabelle Albrecht, sister Judy, ex-wife Deb, and many nieces and nephews. Per Doug’s wish, there will not be a funeral or ceremony. Doug’s ashes will be scattered at his childhood home in Curtis at a future date.
