McCOOK, Neb. -- James "Jim" Kummer, age 65, of McCook, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015.

He was born in McCook on Jan. 9, 1950, to Stanley and Laura (Baker) Kummer. Jim attended and graduated from McCook High School in 1968. He then attended college at Colorado School of Mines for two years.

On April 15, 1978, at Maywood, he was united in marriage to Sharon Sellers and the couple made their home in McCook. The couple celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary this year. Jim worked for the DAYCO and later Parker Hannifin for over 40 years as the scheduling manager.

Jim loved the outdoors. He was an excellent gardener and loved to be in his yard working. He also enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Lawrence "Mutt" Sellers; brother-in-law, Charlie Ortiz; nieces, Kristi Allen and Stacy Sellers; and nephew, Jason Allen.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon of McCook; two sons, Justin Kummer and Kara Sorensen of Bennington, Nebraska and Larry Kummer of Lincoln, Nebraska; two step-grandchildren, Darian and Gage Sorensen; brother, Ben Morgan of Omaha, Nebraska; and five sisters, Donna (Duane) Peterson of Agra, Kansas, Mary Ortiz of McCook, Pat (Lee) Guthrie of McCook, Darlene (Franc) Wahrman of Herndon, Kansas and Diana (Pat) Allen of Herndon, Kansas.

Funeral services will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015, with the Rev. Dr. Doug Griger officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be given to the Community Hospital Cancer Center or McCook Volunteer Fire Department. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com.
