Bill Lytle - Class Of 1968

 

McCOOK, Neb. — William “Bill” Lytle, age 70, of McCook, passed away at Community Hospital of McCook on June 16, 2021. Bill was born at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook on Aug. 5, 1950, to Virgil and Evelyn (McKillip) Lytle. He attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 1968. He attended McCook College for two years. On Aug. 23, 1969, Bill was united in marriage to Sherry Harris at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2019. Bill was inducted in the U.S. Army on Oct.1, 1970. He served in Germany until he was honorably discharged on May 16, 1972. Bill continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve until Sept. 30, 1976. He was employed for 20 years with Jim Harris & Sons Construction and later with J L construction. Bill was a member of the McCook Elks, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and Knight of Columbus. Bill was a past Grand Knight. He was a volunteer for the MADDAD’s group for children at risk. He and Sherry participated in Arts & Crafts shows from the late 1980s until 2001, throughout the Midwest and Southwest America. In 2001, they opened Country Whimsey, coffee shop / gift shop. Through the store and catering, they fed thousands! The couple traveled to Italy, Hawaii, New Orleans, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon and a 50th anniversary trip to Memphis and Nashville, along with many trips with Moostache Joe’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Evelyn; infant brother, Francis; brother-in-law, Jerry Harris; and in-laws, Jim and Violette Harris. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry Lytle of McCook; daughter, Vanessa Lytle of McCook; son, Nathan Lytle of Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren, Jade Hull of Capital Heights, Md., and Nakayla McClelland of Albuquerque; sister, Lee Ann (Steve) Roth of McCook; brothers, Larry (Marla) Lytle of Belle Vista, Ark., and Jim (Anita) Lytle of McCook; sister-in-law, Ina Harris of Lincoln, Neb.; brother-in-law, Tom Harris of McCook; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour and Father Dale Alllder officiating. Rosary will be recited at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at 7 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at a future time. Memorials may be left in Bill’s name to either Community Hospital Hospice and Home Health or the Community Hospital Cardiac Rehab Department. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com.
