Mark E. Heskett of McCook, NE passed away Friday, December 26 peacefully at home. He was 76 years old.

He was born in McCook on July 6, 1949, the eldest child of Melvin & Mary (Jones) Heskett. He grew up in southwest Nebraska and graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1967.

June 6, 1969, Mark married the love of his life, Cathy M. (Myers) Heskett, beginning a lifelong partnership built on hard work, devotion, and family.

Mark selflessly joined the Navy on October 7, 1969. During this time, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Navy Expert in Pistol and Rifle Shot. He was honorably discharged on July 27, 1973.

Mark’s passion and life’s work was his farm southwest of McCook. Known as a hard worker, his attention to small details and no-nonsense attitude garnered him the affectionate nickname “The Admiral”.

He was awarded the Pheasants Forever Master Conservationist of the Year which was Presented in recognition of his dedicated service, commitment and efforts to improving wildlife habitat in Nebraska and his generous support. He was a youth mentor and sponsored access for the Youth Pheasants Forever Hunt each year.

Mark treasured time spent hunting, fishing and playing cards. His home was the gathering place for family, friends, and neighbors who became an extension of the family. He enjoyed history, western and war movies along with spending time with his beloved dog, Brownie.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy and parents Melvin and Mary. He is survived by his three children: son Andrew and wife Deborah of Leavenworth, KS; son Adam and wife Larissa of Culbertson, NE; and daughter Amy and husband David Beaulieu of Gambrills, MD. Mark was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Laura Northern (husband Quin Northern) Meghan Garrett (husband Logan Garrett) Anna Heskett, Beckett Heskett, Greyson Heskett, and Irelyn Beaulieu. He is also survived by his sisters, Roberta Schumacher and family and Phyllis Wallen and family.
