George "Mike" Brown

George "Mike” Michael Brown, age 76, of McCook, NE passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Mike was born to Marion Frankford and Lillian Dolores (Tuttle) Brown on June 10, 1949, in Lincoln, NE. Mike’s family moved to McCook when he was 6 years of age. He graduated from McCook High School in 1967.
Mike enlisted selflessly to the U.S. Army on January 10, 1969. He served for 18 months in Vietnan, while there he respectfully rewarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation from Government of South Vietnam, two army accommodations medals, and two safe driving awards for driving one million miles without an accident while in Vietnam. Mike retired from military after 30 years of service in November 1998.
On October 22, 1999, Mike married Catherine “Cathy” Glick-Robinson in McCook, NE. From this marriage, Mike welcomed two stepsons, and Cathy welcomed a stepdaughter with open arms.
After his retirement from the army, Mike worked at the Frenchman Valley Co-op for many years.
Mike enjoyed drinking coffee at the YMCA when he should have been exercising. He enjoyed welding and woodworking to create beautiful projects. Mike and Cathy took in rescued horses and adopted mustangs. He volunteered at the “Bread Give Away” and was a church trustee at the First Congregational Church.
Mike will be remembered for his good sense of humor and was always joking around. He never met a stranger, he would go to strangers to start a conversation, specifically if they were wearing military hats. He loved to give it back by volunteering and was ready to give a helping hand to anyone who needed one. Mike took anything that was delt to him in stride. Even when his health was declining last year, he always had a smile on his face.
Mike will be missed by his wife Cathy Brown, son Brandon Robinson, daughter Michele (Significant other Glenn Weaver) Glass all of McCook, NE; brothers, John (Donna) Brown of Indianola, NE, Jerry (Kandy) Brown of Bartley, NE. Randy (Dianna) Brown of North Platte, NE, Frank Brown of McCook, NE; sister, Susan Matson of McCook, NE; grandchildren, Daisey and Sophie; numerous nephews and nephews, especially Destiny Florum; and extended family and friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, son Dustin Robinson, and brother-in-law Dave Matson.
Memorials are suggested to First Congregational Church, 212 East E Street, McCook, NE 69001.
A memorial service will be held in Mike’s honor on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 11:00AM at First Congregational Church, McCook, NE, with Pastor Steve Bales as officiant.
Mike always dressed casual so please come in casual or patriotic attire for the service.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
