Leonard J. Stelmach Jr. was born on February 17, 1948 to Leonard Sr. and Bernadine (Traphagen) Stelmach in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in McCook, NE where he graduated from McCook High School and McCook Junior College. He later graduated from the University of Nebraska and served in the Army Reserve. Len married Lois (Horstman) Stelmach on April 26, 1975. To this union two children were born. Len worked for Continental Western Insurance for 37 years. Len loved his family, hunting, fishing, sports, gardening, his dogs and the family farm. Len will always be remembered for his good nature and his fondness for teasing everyone. Len passed away peacefully on August 16, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was proceeded in death by his parents, step-father Ike Malcolm, parents-in-law Harvey and Irene Horstman, brother-in-law Jim Horstman, and sister-in-law Shirley Horstman. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lois, son Joe (Jeanne) Stelmach, daughter Lisa (Nick) Weber, four beloved grandchildren, Aiden, Owen, Avery and Wyatt, sisters Kathy (Dennis) Bauer, Mary Stelmach, brother Greg (Dannette) Stelmach, brothers-in-law Ron Horstman, Gary (Darleen) Horstman, sisters-in-law Betty (Glen) Oosting, Denise Horstman, and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church.. A rosary will be said prior to the Mass at 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be 2:00 PM in the Sterling Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00PM-8:00PM, Monday, August 20, 2018 at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln 68510. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00PM-8:00PM.
