Terence (Terry) Clifford Spratlen

LAYTON, Utah – Terence Clifford Spratlen, 73, passed away Sept. 9, 2017, at the George E. Whalen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah, surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 5, 1944, in Norton, Kan., the son of Clifford A. and Bethel L. Nicholas Spratlen.

He was raised in McCook, Neb., attended McCook Elementary and graduated from McCook High School in 1962. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in January 1967, with a bachelor of science in International Relations and was commissioned into the United States Air Force upon graduation. In September 1974, while stationed at Hickham AFB, Hawaii, he received an MBA from Pepperdine University. Throughout his military career he graduated from Squadron Officers School, Air Command and Staff, Armed Forces Staff College, and Air War College.

While stationed at Keesler AFB, he met Martha (Marte) Stumpf and they were married on May 24, 1969. They have three children, John, Robyn, and Andrew. Terence retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel.

Surviving are his wife, Martha; sons, John, Andrew and daughter, Robyn Spratlen; six grandchildren, Ashley, Owen, Jack, Noah, Khole and Mitchell; brother, Nicholas (Emily) and nephew, Daniel (Jamie); niece, Courtney (John) and their children. He is also survived by three sisters-in law and one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and by a dear friend and brother-in-law, Robert Stumpf.

Private services were held.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
