ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Louis Michael James, 74, died Jan. 21, 2017, in Englewood.
He was born Sept. 20, 1942, to Dr. Louis D. James and Beatrice (Bratt) James in Oxford, Neb. He grew up in McCook, Neb., and graducated from McCook High School in 1961. He went on to graduate from the Dallas Institute College of Mortuary Science in 1964.
In 1963, he married Sandi Rowland, they later divorced.
Mike was licensed as a funeral director/embalmer by the State of Colorado and as a certified Mortuary Science Practitioner. He began working at Howard Mortuary in Denver, Colo., in 1967. He remained with that establishment for 44 years, through its purchase with SCI, mergers with Moore Mortuary and eventually, Olinger Mortuaries. He was honored by his peers in 1998 with the Colorado Funeral Directors Association's Mentor Award. He was a clinical lab embalming instructor for the Mortuary Science Program at the Arapahoe Community College from 1995-2011.
He was preceded in death by Dr. Louis and Beatrice James
Survivors include sons, Michael and Louis; sister, Moiya Linden; brother, Christopher James; sister, Susan Garrison; and their families.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetary in Wheatridge, Colo.
Memorial donations will be accepted for Arapahoe Community College for the Louis "Mike" James scholarship fund.
