Elizabeth "Betty" Bauer (Whitney) - Class Of 1961


Elizabeth "Betty" Susan Whitney
January 20, 1943 – March 10, 2019

Elizabeth Susan “Betty” Whitney was born on January 20, 1943 in Friend, and passed away on March 10, 2019 in Lincoln. She spent her childhood in McCook before graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and briefly teaching high school in Murdock. She was a longtime piano teacher, and a dedicated wife and travel partner to William E. Whitney, who preceded her in death on August 25, 1997.

Betty is survived by her two children, Liz (Steve) Pearson and their daughter Ava, of Lincoln, and Bill (Joanna) Whitney and their daughter Olive, of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her brother Bill Bauer, cousins Judy Sweney and Jane Raetz, and other family and friends. She was a proud member of P.E.O., Delta Omicron music sorority, and the Nebraska Music Teachers Association. She supported music and the arts, taking great pride in her piano students’ successes, and enjoying many performances at the Lied Center and other venues around Lincoln. She contributed to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for many years as an accompanist

Chuck Real (1961)

Sorry to read of the passing of Betty.  She and I had known each other since we were 5 years old attending Kindergarten at West Ward.  I remember her with an ever present smile on her face.  My sincere condolences to the members of her family.
