LINCOLN, Neb. — Vernon J. Thornbrugh died Jan. 13, 2021, in Lincoln. He was born Sept. 5, 1942, to Vernon L. and Edith (Turley) Thornbrugh in Iola, Kan. He graduated from McCook High School in 1960. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He married Garrah Lea Smith on Sept. 9, 1962. He was a USDA meat inspector. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven Thornbrugh. Survivors included his wife, Garrah Lea of Lincoln; children, Shanna (Phillip) Pogue of Omaha; Patrick ( Terri) Thornbrugh of Smithville, Mo., and Darren (Juliana) Thornbrugh of Glendale, Wis.; brother, David (Vicki) Thornbrugh of Stratton, Neb.; sisters, Mary Davis of Hinkley, Utah and Ruth (John) Troth of Topeka, Kan.; and six grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be at a later date. Memorials can be given in his name to the American Heart Association at www.2.heart.org.
