Sharon Derr
August 29, 1942 - March 13, 2025
Sharon Marie Derr was born on August 29, 1942 in McCook, Nebraska to Glenn and Faye (Johnson) Schow. She attended school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1960.
On July 18,1965, Sharon was united in marriage to the love of her life, Wally Derr. They made their home in McCook where they raised their four children and spent nearly sixty years together. Sharon worked at the McCook Packing Plant, McCook Public Power (REA), and at JC Penney. She was also employed by McCook Public Schools where she served as a secretary, a paraprofessional, and a lunch lady. Sharon ran an in-home daycare for more than ten years.
Sharon and Wally were active in the McCook community, they enjoyed a couple’s card club together. Sharon was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and participated in 4-H growing up and was a 4-H leader as an adult. Her other interests and hobbies included sewing, genealogy, and collecting crystal.
Sharon passed away at the Arbor Care Center in Franklin, Nebraska on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the age of 82.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Glenn and Faye Schow; sister, Marilyn Kay; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Darrell and Winifred Derr.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wally; children: Susan (Bob) Nickerson of Kearney, Nebraska, Steve (Michelle) Derr of Sterling, Nebraska, Jeff (Kendra) Derr of Kearney, and Janet (Dean) Weiss of Franklin; grandchildren: Matt (Anna) Nickerson of Kearney, Madison Derr and fiancé, Jim Sloup of Omaha, Nebraska, Katie (Jacob) Mason of Callaway, Nebraska, MaKayla Weiss and Wyatt Gibson of Hastings, Nebraska, Ryan Weiss and Taelyn Pritchard of Franklin, Makenzie Derr of McCook, Amber Massa of Kearney, Whitney Kuhlen of Kearney, and Brooke Hochstetler of Colorado; great-grandchildren, Scout Mason, Banks Nickerson, Oliver Mason, Alivia Kuhlen, Hazel Kuhlen, Jack Massa, and Lucas Massa; brothers and sisters: Raymond (Judy) Schow of McCook, Roger (Pat ) Derr of Littleton, Colorado, Rodney (Louise) Derr of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Butch (Barb) Derr of Warrner Robbins, Georgia.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 6: 00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Sharon's family will greet friends from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday morning, March 18, 2025 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Mike Roth providing words of comfort. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook will follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are in Sharon’s name are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
