Kitty Sue Troxell Young

Jan. 26, 1941 - Jan. 9, 2021 DALLAS, Texas — Kitty Sue Troxell Young was born on Jan. 26, 1941, in Fort Collins, Colo. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Dean Troxell; mother, Esther Schmidt Troxell; and her infant brother, Jack Dean Troxell, Jr, of McCook, Neb. Kitty, also known as Mama Kitty, Kitty Sue or KiKi, was loved by all who knew her. Her talent and creativity spawned many endeavors including teaching, jewelry designing, styling, animal rescue, writing and painting. She attended McCook High School until 1958 where she was an actively involved student, participating as baton twirler, band leader, drum major, flutist, piano player and choreographer of many musicals. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska, where she was crowned Miss University of Nebraska in 1961. She graduated with a bachelor of science in education and went on to do graduate work in English literature. Kitty taught high school English in Littleton, Colo., and McCook, Neb., until 1967. She took a group of students to England to study at the University of Warwick, which was described by her students as an epic experience. Kitty’s marriage to Earl Young moved her to Dallas, Texas, in 1968, where she was active in many philanthropic groups, most notably the United Cerebral Palsy Guild from 1971-1975 where she served as Ball Chairman in 1975. She then emerged with her own company, Designs by Kitty, where she was the designer and manufacturer of unique handcrafted fashion accessories. Her popularity skyrocketed and her accessories could be found in specialty boutiques nationally and internationally. Many articles were written in publications such as Women’s Wear Daily and D Magazine. Kitty’s fashion concept was, “A woman can be as bold in her accessory statement as her confidence can carry,” and Kitty carried this confidence beautifully. Kitty moved to Sedona, Ariz., in 1990, where she continued with her creative process through her writing while she also focused on healing after many challenging illnesses. She moved back to Dallas a few years later, where she devoted her time to writing, animals, family and her grandchildren. To her students, to know Kitty was life-changing. She was unforgettable, poised, knowledgeable, effective, brilliant, inspiring, dedicated and a highly respected mentor. To her friends, she was always up for adventure, the life of the party, jokester, creative, intuitive, dynamic, dramatic, cultured, expressive, high spirited, beautiful, magnetic, talented and full of light. To her family, Kitty was and will always be a pillar of strength, loyal, devoted, dignified, a tradition keeper, story teller, historian, fun maker, teacher, creator of magic, devoted, witty, steadfast with unwavering love. Kitty was happiest in the mountains or Mexico, anywhere with animals and nature, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She lived a life full of accomplishments, love, light, determination and wisdom. A strong-willed fighter, persevering through illness with her good sense of humor and positive attitude no matter what was thrown her way. Kitty passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Jan. 9, 2021, just shy of her 80th birthday. Kitty Sue Troxell Young is survived by her daughter, Stacey Young Mayfield of Dallas, Texas; her grandson, Daniel Mayfield and granddaughter, Stella Mayfield. “Make bad days better and good days great!” “Have a wonderful day in paradise, wherever you are!” -KSTY
