Fern Nelson (McGuire) - Class Of 1956

 

 
Fern McGuire
   

Fern McGuire passed away June 22nd. She was born on a farm in Nebraska on June 22, 1938 to Guy and Rose Nelson. She went to school in McCook Nebraska and then married Ken McGuire. They spent the next 2 years in the Marine Corps. She was the mother to three fine boys. Following her husband’s footsteps, she was ordained as a Buddhist priest and spent the next 30 years in the service of all sentient beings. During her clerical career, she was transmitted to the rank of Grand Master in Soto Zen (Japenese) and Zen Master of Buddhism in Vietnam. Fern is survived by her sons Jeff, Dave (Rhoma), and Shawn (Megan); grandchildren Tiffany, Spencer, Nelson, Erin and Sydney; her sisters Nadine Owens (Gerald), Dorothy MacClaren, and Karen Ruff (Jim). She was preceeded in death by her parents and sister Avis Raye. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, June 29th at 10:00am at Getz Funeral Home
