HILLSBORO, Ore. — Richard (Dick) D. Nelson, 83, passed away Nov. 8, 2021, at Hillsboro.
He was born in McCook Neb., on Nov. 13, 1937, to Faye and Ernest Nelson. He graduated from McCook High School in 1955 and excelled in football, basketball, track and summer league baseball. He went on to attend the University of Nebraska, playing baseball and graduating with a degree in education. He married Peggy Lou Anderson on June 7, 1959.
He was a teacher and coach at Hillboro High School from 1967 to 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Ernest Nelson; brothers, Roy Smith, Dale Nelson, Dare Nelson, and Loren Nelson; and sisters, Dorothy (Nelson) Baker and Donna (Nelson) Schiessler.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; four children, Michael, Daniel (Victoria), Lori (Eric) and Pamela (Jim); eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, Anita Graff of McCook and Diane Fischer of Culbertson, Neb.; and many other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at Hillsboro. Inurnment will be at Fir Lawn Memorial Park in Hillsboro.
