Harold "Herb" McNutt - Class Of 1954

Harold Allan “Herb” McNuttt, age 85, of Kearney passed away at his home on September 15, 2021. He was born in McCook on September 4, 1936, to Roy and Lucille (Marcum) McNutt. Herb went to school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 28, 1954, serving in Germany prior to being Honorably Discharged on October 28,1956. Herb was married to Shirley Kay “Tootie” Propp and to this union two sons were born, Rodney and Randy. On September 12, 1998, Herb married Coraleen “Kae” Matson-McNutt and the family grew by two, adding David and Diana. Herb was employed by Stickney’s for 20 years before going to work for Lee Janssen selling cars. In 1999, Herb and Kae moved to Kearney. In Kearney, Herb managed an apartment complex and later worked for Cabela’s for 12 years, in the phone order department. Herb loved NASCAR and watching Husker football on TV or listening to it on the radio. He would take road trips on the spur of the moment, and might go to Iowa to see kids, Branson, Missouri for shows, or even the Grand Canyon. Herb played in the band with Ron Scott, Bob McNutt and the Road Masters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lucille; son, Rodney; brothers, Merle and Jerry McNutt; sister, Lori Synder; and brother-in-law, Otis Tyson. Herb is survived by his wife, Kae of Kearney; two sons, Randy (Amy) of Kearney and Dave (Cheri) of Locust Grove, OK; daughter, Diana (Steven) Arhart of Ft. Dodge, IA; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rita Tyson of Blackfoot, Idaho.
