NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Barbara J. Dowell, 91, of North Platte, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.

Barbara was born on May 5, 1935, in Fort Morgan, Colo., to Rudy and Bernadine (Parr) Neumann. A 1954 graduate of McCook High School, she spent her life building lasting friendships, raising her family, and creating a home filled with love and laughter.

Barbara was the proud mother of six sons: Dan, Thomas, Larry, Jerry, Garry, and Steven. In North Platte, she met the love of her life, Edward “Ed” Dowell. They married on Nov. 26, 1966, and shared more than 55 years of love, friendship, and devotion.

Nothing brought Barbara more joy than her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by their laughter. From holiday gatherings to everyday visits, she cherished every opportunity to create memories with those she loved.

Barbara treasured her lifelong friendships, especially those formed through her school years and community involvement. She also shared a special bond with her sister, Sandy, whose friendship and companionship remained a constant source of joy throughout her life. Whether gathering with friends, spending time with family, or celebrating holidays surrounded by loved ones, Barbara’s warmth and kindness touched countless lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed; her brother, William “Bill” Neumann; and sons Thomas, Larry, and Garry Lieberth.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (Bonnie) Lieberth, Jerry (Sandy) Lieberth, and Steven Dowell; her sister, Sandy Reisinger; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in North Platte. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte is in charge of arrangements.
