Lesta Jean (Horinek) Jaggers

Lesta Jean Horinek Jaggers was born September 9, 1934 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Lester and Irma (Milburn) Dinnel. At a young age, Lesta’s father married Dorothy Dack, who Lesta called mom. Lesta graduated from McCook High School and furthered her education at Colby, Kansas and at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. She earned her Psychology Master’s Degree.

 

    Lesta was united in marriage to LeRoy Horinek on September 10, 1953. The couple made a home in Atwood, Kansas. On June 2, 1979, Lesta married LeRoy Jaggers; they lived in Russell, Kansas where Lesta worked for the Kansas Public System. Lesta and “Jaggers” retied in McCook, Nebraska. Lesta was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed golf, playing cards, and researching genealogy. Lesta was happiest when spending time with her family.

 

    Lesta passed away Friday morning, October 11, 2024 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 90 years of age.

    Lesta was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Jaggers and a daughter, Deborah Kompas.

 

    Survivors include her children Doug (Deanna) Horinek, Dianne (Mike) Kugler, and David (Rose) Horinek; stepchildren, Debra (Barry) Park and Donna Davis; sister, Bev (Longnecker) Rhea; as well as her loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

    Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 AM on Friday morning, October 18, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook with Father Bernard Kimminau celebrating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery of McCook will follow services.
