Donald D McMains, age 90, passed away September 12, 2025, after a brief stay at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

Don was born September 16. 1934, to Burtis (Pete) & Ruby McMains at McCook, Nebraska.

Don grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1952 after which he entered the United States Marine Corp where he was an aircraft mechanic during the Korean war. In 2024 Don was awarded the quilt of Valor for his service to his country.

Don married Idonna May Howell on July 31, 1954. Together they had two children, Tim and Sherry.

Don spent many years driving truck with Fairmont Foods, Dayco Corp and Cornbelt Chemical where he enjoyed visiting with people on his stops.

Don is survived by his daughter Sherry Steinke and special friend Ron Wiezorek of North Platte,sister Shirley Stagemeyer of McCook, grandchildren Tim McMains & Sarah (North Platte) Heidi & Franco Giorgione (Casper WY) Nichole & Stewart Peterson (Gold Canyon AZ) Kyle & Melisa Steinke (North Platte) Cody & Brittny Steinke (Bennington), 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Proceeding him in death is his wife Idonna, son Tim McMains and grandson Christopher McMains.

A celebration of life will be Saturday September 20, 2025, at 12:30 at the American Legion 2020 East 4 North Platte NE. Please come enjoy lunch and share your memories.

Memorials may be written to the Red Willow Animal Clinic to be used for pet families who need financial assistance or the McCook Humane Society.
